Father Christmas costume for Kingsmead Primary School
The pattern I used was Butterick 6815, with a few modifications!
I bought some wine coloured stretch velvet from ebay, and bought some long fake 'coney' fur for the trim (also from ebay!!). I decided that the stretch velvet was a bit too drapy, so thought I'd line the jacket to give it a bit more body. I left the fur trim off the front, and added gold buttons (which were a great find from my local market!!). I lengthened the jacket by 9cm (which was as much as I could get away with, being a bit short on fabric!) as I wanted a more traditional Father Christmas rather than a Coca-Cola Santa. I also drafted a short hooded cape instead of using the pattern for the hat. I lined the cape with red satin which looks beautiful but was a nightmare to sew onto the stretch velour!
I am *really* pleased with how this turned out - it looks beautiful and have had a lot of compliments from parents at the school!
Here are pictures of the finished product - my DH is modelling, as he has the right build <g>
